§ 91.22. GUIDELINES.

Latest version.
  • (A) Recreational fires are allowed at a recreational fire site within the village when the following guidelines are followed.
    (1) The fire is contained to a three by three by three area; this can be in-ground, on-ground or in a freestanding, pre-manufactured fireplace and must be at least 15 feet from any building or combustible structure such as decks or fences.
    (2) The fire must be located on the user’s own property. If the fire is in an easement area, the user must have approval from all involved parties.
    (3) Only wood may be burned, with a minimum of one inch diameter. No brush, yard waste or treated wood may be burned.
    (4) No rubbish can be burned at any time.
    (5) Burning barrels are prohibited.
    (6) A responsible adult must be present at all times.
    (7) Fires are not allowed if winds are in excess of 15 mph.
    (8) A means of controlling or extinguishing the fire must be available at all times (extinguisher, garden hose, shovel and loose dirt, for example).
    (9) Hours for recreational fires are limited to 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.
    (10) Fires must be completely extinguished before leaving them unattended. Users must use care when extinguishing the fire to avoid throwing embers into the air and to prevent damage if a manufactured device is in use.
    (11) Any police or fire officer may withdraw permission for recreational fires due to climatic conditions, extreme dryness, nuisance problems or violations of these guidelines.
    (B) State-issued burning restrictions/bans may impact/override this subchapter. High winds and/or dry conditions require extra attention and safety for even the smallest fire. “If in doubt, put it out.”
